He invests in a wide range of technology companies including Uber, Nest, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Urban Engines. David’s Google career began more than 17 years ago, as director of Global Communications and Public Affairs. In this role, David oversaw the company’s strategic communications programs worldwide, and worked as a member of the senior leadership team to grow Google from a small startup to a multi-billion dollar global enterprise. David’s prior professional experience spanned both startup and public companies, including Apple Computer, QUALCOMM, Four11 (now Yahoo! Mail), and two computer security software developers. David is also on the board of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (MGM), a member of Young President’s Organization (YPO), a trustee of San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum of Art, and a Menlo/Atherton Little League baseball coach.

Story:

David received his Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Indiana University Bloomington where he also studied music and nurtured his growing interest in technology. Wanting to explore technology further, he moved to Southern California and found that his communication skills were an invaluable resource to technology firms. He then moved to Silicon Valley where he understood that the “Super Bowl of Technology is played every day”.

David’s energy, enthusiasm, and exuberance for everything he touches is infectious and has caused him to become a trusted colleague, mentor, and resource to many. David’s willingness to share his life story and lessons learned are hugely impactful to our next generation. From music major to journalism to head of GV was no straight line and David inspires all to self-awareness, the power of mentorship and vital importance of curiosity, technology and taking risks in life. He resides in the Bay Area with his wife, three children, and their labradoodle.

Why Committed:

Mentors have played a critical role in my life. I see enormous opportunity to give that gift that I received to our next generation through the Center. I truly do. Every interaction with the Center reinforces authenticity and world class, leading edge young professionals all of whom have the potential to change the world. I am really honored to help shape the lives of these young people.
